Ortofon AS Series Tonearms

Ortofon’s AS series static-balance tonearms feature high quality materials and construction, combined with a nod to analog’s past, for precise sound reproduction combined with a modern-vintage aesthetic.  AS series tonearms can be used for a wide array of phono cartridges and pickup heads.  Both models feature anti-skating control and easy adjustment for vertical tracking angle and stylus rake angle.  DIN-to-RCA phono cable and two counterweights included.  Headshell NOT included.  See below for available headshell models.

Ortofon Headshells

Ortofon headshells are available in several different models to satisfy a wide range of needs in terms of function and mass.  The AS Series tonearms do not come with a headshell, so if you are using a conventional half-inch mount phono cartridge, you will find a headshell here that will perfectly complement your choice of tonearm and phono cartridge.

The LH-10000 is a new concept in headshell design, which features construction of a high performance aluminum and zinc alloy. Designed to mate with the Ortofon TA Series tonearms, the LH-10000 features sophisticated damping using Ortofon’s special proprietary TPE (Thermo-Plastic Elastomer) compound.  The LH-10000 is fully azimuth adjustable and comes with a set of high-purity silver-plated copper headshell leads.

ST-7 Moving Coil Step Up Transformer

The ST-7 is a dual mono design that features a permalloy shielded housing to maximize channel separation.  The coils are wound using a sandwich winding structure and only highest quality internal wiring is used.  Other features include gold plated RCA jacks and upgraded rubber isolation feet.  The ST-7 is the perfect choice for use with the Ortofon Quintet Series and with the Ortofon SPU Classic models.

ST-80 SE Moving Coil Step Up Transformer

The ST-80 SE delivers a detailed reproduction with a touch of warmth accompanied by a full bodied sound quality. Compared to most moving coil transformers currently on the market, the ST-80 SE has a larger bobbin, more layers in the Permalloy core, and more coil windings.

The transformers are magnetically shielded in a Permalloy case, which in turn is inserted into a robust 10 millimeter thick cylinder bored out of a solid aluminum block. Together with the heavy metal case this construction technique effectively isolates the transformers from resonance and vibration.

The stability of the transformer is superb thanks to its substantial weight of 1.5kg, ensuring it stays in place even when cables are attached.

The ST-80 SE is built as a true dual mono design, ensuring maximum channel separation, and weighs a substantial 1.5 kilograms.

The internal point-to-point wiring is Teflon insulated, solid-core, gold-plated, pure OFC copper. Together with high quality gold-plated RCA jacks with Teflon insulation, optimum signal transmission and integrity is insured.

The ST-80 SE is a perfect match for most high quality moving coil phono cartridges on the market today, including Ortofon’s own A90, Xpression, Windfeld, and Cadenza Series models, as well as many of the SPU models.

ST-M25 Mono Moving Coil Step Up Transformer

The Ortofon ST-M25 moving coil transformer is designed exclusively for use with the SPU Mono CG 25 Di MkII and SPU Mono CG 65 Di MkII phono pickup heads and will increase the voltage output of these SPU models by 12 dB, which will allow them to be used with most common moving magnet phono preamplifiers.

Ortofon Tonearm Cables

These high-quality tonearm cables are available in both RCA-to-RCA and DIN-to-RCA versions, including a right angle DIN version.  The copper wire models are made of a combination of five nines and six nines oxygen-free copper and feature gold-plated RCA terminations with rhodium-plated center pins.  The RCA-to-RCA version is also useful for connection of a moving coil step up transformer to a phono preamplifier. 

A four nines silver cable is also available in the DIN-to-RCA configuration.  It features fully rhodium-plated terminations. 

All versions are 1.2 meters in length.  These high quality cables are recommended as an upgrade for the cable provided with Ortofon tonearms, and both the DIN-to-RCA and RCA-to-RCA versions will work on nearly any turntable on the market with a removable tonearm cable.
