Ortofon tonearms offer excellent versatility and exceptional performance for both historic and modern turntable applications.

Ortofon tonearms are legendary in their performance, both with the superior Ortofon SPU moving coil phono cartridges on historic turntable and when used with modern turntables such as the Merrill-Williams and Merrill-Scillia models.  Ortofon has taken a no nonsense approach to the design of these tonearms, building ease of adjustment and use and high-quality parts into the designs.

ST-80 SE Moving Coil Step Up Transformer

The ST-80 SE delivers a detailed reproduction with a touch of warmth accompanied by a full bodied sound quality. Compared to most moving coil transformers currently on the market, the ST-80 SE has a larger bobbin, more layers in the Permalloy core, and more coil windings.

The transformers are magnetically shielded in a Permalloy case, which in turn is inserted into a robust 10 millimeter thick cylinder bored out of a solid aluminum block. Together with the heavy metal case this construction technique effectively isolates the transformers from resonance and vibration.

The stability of the transformer is superb thanks to its substantial weight of 1.5kg, ensuring it stays in place even when cables are attached.

The ST-80 SE is built as a true dual mono design, ensuring maximum channel separation, and weighs a substantial 1.5 kilograms.

The internal point-to-point wiring is Teflon insulated, solid-core, gold-plated, pure OFC copper. Together with high quality gold-plated RCA jacks with Teflon insulation, optimum signal transmission and integrity is insured.

The ST-80 SE is a perfect match for most high quality moving coil phono cartridges on the market today, including Ortofon’s own A90, Xpression, Windfeld, and Cadenza Series models, as well as many of the SPU models.
