For more years than nearly any other American hi-fi manufacturer, Grado has been designing and producing products that are the benchmark of innovation and quality.

Young Joseph Grado

A young Joseph Grado started building phono cartridges in 1953, and officially opened a factory for their manufacture in 1955.  That factory in Brooklyn, New York is still the home of Grado Labs today. 

From that time until now, the work carried out at Grado has accounted for 48 patents, and some of the most highly regarded phono cartridges, headphones, and even tonearms ever available.  Joseph Grado’s revolutionary moving iron phono cartridge designs are still the standard by which other similar designs are judged today.  Grado is also commonly given credit for the invention of the moving coil phono cartridge.

Today, the Grado tradition is carried on by Joseph Grado’s nephew John and his two sons Matthew and Jonathan.  These two later generations of the Grado family have advanced the company’s presence in the headphone industry by designing and producing some of the very best available, and have steadily improved the quality and performance of the Grado phono cartridges as well.  John Grado began working for his uncle Joseph when he was twelve years old, and John’s sons have followed in the family tradition by joining the company at early ages as well.

Please note that Grado phono cartridges do not have shielded generator systems.  If your turntable is designed with an unshielded motor that sits beneath the platter, then you may encounter hum caused by electro-magnetic interference in your system.  Please call to discuss this with us before you place an order for any Grado phono cartridge.

Prestige Series Phono Cartridges

Designed to work with any common phono preamp and with nearly any tonearm, the Prestige Series allows entry into hi-fi reproduction without breaking the bank.  Mono and 78 versions are available, and all Prestige Series phono cartridges have user replaceable styli for easy servicing and economical ownership.

Timbre Series High Output Phono Cartridges

Featuring four models with a body made of Australian Jarrah wood, as well as the Opus V3, with a maple body, the Grado Timbre Series high output phono cartridge models offer excellent playback accuracy and resolution.  Each model in the line has an increasingly refined design from one step to the next.  Some of the key refinements are lower generator mass and lower tip mass due to increasingly complex cantilever designs as you move up the line.

All Timbre Series high output models have a generous voltage output.  They can be used with any moving magnet phono preamp on the market and will sound spectacular.

Each model is also available in a true mono configuration.

Jarrah	Maple

Timbre Series Low Output Phono Cartridges

Like the Grado Timbre Series high output models, all of the Statement Series models feature a body made of Australian Jarrah wood with the exceptions of the Opus V3, which has a body crafted from maple.   The designs and workmanship are increasingly refined designs as you move up the line from one model to the next.  Along with each model having increasingly lower mass and more complex cantilever systems, the Timber low output series has a much lower mass generator for each model due to less coil winding turns.  This accounts for the lower output of these models, but also allows for a quicker and more detailed reproduction of the music on your records.

The Timber low output models are the ultimate in playback quality for moving iron phono cartridges and are a perfect match for the today’s best analog front ends.

All Timbre Series low output models are also available in a true mono version.

Lineage Series Phono Cartridges

The Grado Lineage Series phono cartridges are at the pinnacle of performance among moving iron designs, and among all phono cartridges on the market today.  And these three models accomplish this feat of performance at prices far below the most highly regarded competitors in the hi-fi market.

The Statement V3 features a body made of Jarrah wood, just like its Timbre Series mates, while the Aeon V3 and Epoch V3 have bodies of Honduran Cocobolo.  The Aeon V3 and the Epoch V3 both feature Grado’s patented Flux-Bridge™, as well as Grado’s Four Coil Unison and Twin Magnet systems.  Both also have sapphire cantilevers and the Epoch V3 has gold coil wire.

All three Lineage Series models are available in both stereo and true mono versions.
