With a storied past going back more than 125 years, the people of Thorens know a thing or two about building high quality turntables that don’t cost an arm and a leg to own and enjoy. 

During those 125 years, it is nearly certain that no audio reproduction company has won more industry awards, and garnered more accolades for their products than has Thorens.  This tradition continues today- Thorens seems to earn three or four more industry awards and recommendations each and every year.

Founded in Switzerland in 1883 as a maker of music boxes and clock movement, Thorens went on to produce Edison-style, wind-up phonographs in 1903 and their first record player with an electric motor in 1928.  Several of the Thorens record player models of the 1950s and 1960s have attained near-legendary status for their performance, and these models are still much sought after to this day.

The current management and ownership of Thorens has been in place since 2002.  Today, the offices and distribution operations are located in Switzerland, while manufacturing is carried out in Germany.  Today’s Thorens models are carefully designed and built to meticulous standards using carefully chosen techniques and materials.  This means that no matter which Thorens model you choose, you can be assured that it will be the best value at its price point in the market.
